Trivago reveals top 10 trending destinations
Trivago has released its ‘trending’ destinations as part of an annual research.
Using price data from the past two years on trivago platforms around the world, it has identified the destinations that have seen the largest increase in popularity over this period and collatd them in its Global Summer Trends research.
Icelandic capital Reykjavik was the number one trending destination, having shown the greatest increase in searches over the past two years.
Spain features twice in the list, with Alicante and Torrevieja both making the top ten.
European destinations make up 50% of the results, with Iceland, Turkey, Spain and Croatia included.
Each destination measured had to have at least 35 hotels.
Eleanor Kutylowski, external relations at trivago, said: “Even though most of the destinations in the top ten offer sunshine and sandy beaches, the top spot for 2017 is taken by Iceland’s Reykjavik, an alternative to the traditional summer beach holiday.
“Europe is the place to be this year, with European destinations making up half of the top ten. For those looking to venture abroad, these destinations are perfect for a short haul break, however with most UK travellers choosing to holiday for an average of 7 days, the long-haul options outside of the continent are set to be just as popular.”
