Travelzoo survey finds rising demand for late summer

Deals publisher says 45% of its members are looking to book September trips

Demand for late summer sun is seeing more people planning last-minute overseas holidays, according to Travelzoo.

A new survey by the travel deals firm shows that 45% of its members are looking to book a 2021 holiday in September.

Nearly half (42%) plan to travel next month, 35% in October and 23% in November.

Fly and flop is the most popular type of holiday with 42% choosing a hotel/resort abroad over a UK hotel/resort (35%) and an overseas villa/self-catering holiday (21%).

The majority (81%) agreed that masks should be worn for all flights no matter the duration.

The findings coincided with Jet2 adding flights to Madeira, Malta and Croatia for last-minute getaways this month and in September.

James Clarke, general manager of Travelzoo in the UK, said: “As consumer confidence grows, we can see that it is whetting the appetite of travellers and September is looking to be the month for travel with nearly half our members looking to book a last-minute holiday, travelling the same month.

“With this in mind, we are focusing our efforts to give them unbeatable deals – many of which are fully refundable should the need arise – to book now for some late summer sun”.
