Digital food and drink ordering platform introduced by BA

Digital Speedbird Café service will be available in Euro Traveller cabins

British Airways has introduced a digital ordering platform for passengers in Euro Traveller cabins to buy food and drink from the airline’s Speedbird Café menu during flights.

The service will initially be available on selected routes from July 19, before being expanded across most of the short-haul network on flights from Heathrow.

The new inflight ordering system is in addition to the airline’s current ‘Buy Before You Fly’ offering, which enables passengers to order from the Speedbird Café menu ahead of their flights.

To place an order, passengers can connect to the onboard Wi-Fi service for free via shop.ba.com. They can click on the ‘shop’ option for their flight, and a virtual menu will display a range of drinks and snacks.

Orders can be made via major credit and debit cards or through Avios.

Tom Stevens, BA’s brand and customer experience director, said: “The feedback we have had from customers who have been able to travel and have ordered from our new Speedbird Café has been extremely encouraging.

“We know that customers like being able to purchase their food in advance of travel and guarantee their first choice, however we also understand the importance of an extra cup of tea or a gin and tonic, in the moment.”

The airline will also continue to offer a free bottle of water and snack to all customers on board.

The digital ordering platform will not be available on express routes, because of the very short flight times. This includes Manchester, Jersey, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin, Newcastle and Newquay.
