Travellers now have option of splitting payments between multiple people or multiple credit cards
Air Europa uses Hands In for split payment for online tickets
Payments specialist, Hands In, has announced that Spanish carrier, Air Europa, now offers its split payment technology on its website.
The new offering now allows customers to divide ticket costs between multiple travellers or credit cards at checkout.
Since it launched the feature, in June last year, Air Europa has generated over €3.8 million in incremental revenue and more than 15,000 unique profiles have used the split payments options.
For group trips, the rollout has seen €1.6 million in incremental revenue for the airline and achieved an 87.8% conversion rate when the lead booker pays with the first card.
The multi-card solution is also available when Hands In receives the decline code from the acquirer due to insufficient funds, prompting a pop-up that allows the customer to retry the transaction using two cards instead of one.
This feature has recovered €2.4 million in revenue with an accompanying conversion rate of 95.1% when the first card payment is made.
The next phase includes plans to add multiple payment options, starting with PayPal, enabling users to combine credit cards, PayPal, and debit cards when splitting payments and installment payments.
Loyalty points will be introduced, allowing travellers to use points alongside other payment methods, further enhancing convenience and personalisation in the customer experience.
‘We are very pleased to have these solutions in our online purchasing process," said Yago Casasnovas, head of payments, fraud prevention and distribution of Air Europa.
"They represent a further step in the line we have set ourselves of helping the user to decide how they want their trip to be which is part of our campaign slogan ‘Tú Decides’ (You decide).
"The possibility of splitting payments between several people or cards makes shopping easier and further reduces the barriers to flying."
Samuel Flynn, founder and CEO of Hands In, said: "We are delighted with the results Air Europa can achieve by implementing Hands In solutions natively in its payment process.
"Our goal now is to continue to help the company deliver an excellent customer experience with other split payment innovations that can contribute to this goal."
