Research reveals ChatGPT is most popular AI travel planning tool

Other top tools include big players

Tech-savvy travellers are turning to artificial intelligence to support their holiday planning, according to new research conducted by Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Money.

The data revealed that of those that use AI for planning, over 45% of them use ChatGPT.

It found that the next most popular tools used by holidaymakers were Roam Around on 27%, Guide.com (25%), Microsoft Copilot (24%) and Out of Office (23%),

The study of 2,000 people in the UK who travel for leisure revealed though that still only one in ten Brits have used AI for travel planning in the past. One in five said they were likely to use it again.

Younger generations are more likely to use AI to plan their next trip, according to the research.

46% of people aged 18-24 said that they were likely to use it to plan their next holiday, followed by 43% of people aged 25-34.

In contrast, just 10% of people aged 65 and over believed they would do so.

Almost all of the survey respondents who use AI experienced a constraint or shortcoming of some kind when using these tools with a staggering 91% saying this has happened to them.

The biggest blockers Brits encountered included 38% of respondents said they also experienced generic answers, 37% said they had experiences missing information and 30% say they had been given.

More than a quarter of respondents also revealed that they were too concerned about privacy to use AI for travel planning.

Stuart Briant, head of travel money of Sainsbury’s Bank, said: “Amidst recent reports of a rise in AI-fuelled travel scams, it’s not a surprise some holidaymakers are being cautious.

"Whether you’re using AI or not, it’s important that you take steps to protect yourself.

“Be vigilant about potential phishing attempts and other tactics used by cyber criminals.

"If you believe that you have been scammed, contact your bank immediately.”
