Amadeus is supporting the growth of Latin American super-app Rappi by powering the firm’s travel platform as part of a recently agreed tie-up.
The European GDS and travel technology giant will bring search and automation capabilities to Rappi, adding more features and services to the app to help users access travel products more easily.
Although the platform began life as a food delivery platform, it has since branched out to provide other services, including travel booking, on its all-in-one app.
Rappi is the most popular super app in Latin America, with 30 million users in over 350 cities and nine countries.
Guido Becher, global head of Rappi Travel, said: “We have been very well received by our customers, so we are ready to expand our connectivity with partners and increase our flight offers at a higher speed with this new alliance that boosts the business, reinforcing the purpose of being the go-to app for travel in Latin America.
“We are very excited about the innovation that Amadeus is bringing to the table because this partnership will allow us to transform people's travel experience.”
Eduardo Schutte, senior vice president of online in the Americas at Amadeus, said: “There are only a handful of apps in the world that have transcended into everyday use. Rappi is one of those elite apps that has built a huge following.
“We are extremely happy to embark on this partnership with Rappi Travel at a time when more and more people are booking their trips entirely on their mobile devices.
“This agreement sets the foundation for many exciting developments ahead between our companies.”
