Sidestep-owned TripUp.com has created a Facebook application that allows users to find available “couches” around the world.

Users of the travel social network site will be able to offer up their home accommodation via Facebook to friends and other travellers as well as browse other available couches.

In addition to the listing facility, users of CouchSwap will be able to rate the comfort of the couches they have slept on.

Brian Stolte, director of product management at SideStep, said: “CouchSwap isn’t just about finding a free place to crash; it offers a way to connect with others while travelling in addition to sharing your own local experience by lending your couch to a fellow travel enthusiast.

“We’re excited to offer this new TripUp application, particularly since it meshes well with existing SideStep applications for Facebook such as Trips.”

Sidestep was one of the first travel sites to develop a Facebook application when the popular networking site opened its API to developers earlier this year.
