Ryanair is to start offering customers in the Netherlands local payment method iDEAL thanks to a partnership with Adyen.

The deal allowing iDEAL payments is a first for Ryanair.

In the Netherlands iDEAL accounts for about 60% of all online payment volume and 40% of payment volume in the travel industry.

Roelant Prins, chief commercial officer for Adyen, said: “For businesses expanding globally, the value of offering local payment methods is enormous.

“For example, in markets like the Netherlands and China, local payment methods account for upwards of 50% of online transaction volume.

“We’re proud to be powering growth for global businesses such as Ryanair by supporting over 250 local payment methods worldwide.”

Ryanair’s head of communications, Robin Kiely, added: “Millions of Dutch consumers use iDEAL annually and Ryanair is pleased to have reached this agreement with Adyen to offer this payment option on the Ryanair.com website.

Ryanair first partnered with Adyen in March 2014 to offer the option for Ryanair customers in Germany to purchase flight tickets with SEPA Direct Debit.
