Skyscanner appoints Adam Drake as chief data officer

A newly-formed data science team has been created by Skyscanner under new chief data officer Adam Drake.

The division incorporates the travel search engine’s business intelligence and data science functions.

Drake is former chief data scientist and engineering director at performance advertising network Zanox and was previously research vice president and chief data scientist at mobile advertising company Madvertise.

The position has been created in recognition of the central role that data products provide at Skyscanner for internal and travel partner use.

Drake will oversee the creation of further travel data products for travellers and the travel industry following the introduction of Skyscanner for Business last year.

Chief executive and co-founder Gareth Williams said: “Travel is about people moving in time and place – and data products make travel more efficient.

“Adam joins us to set the standard for the future of travel data products, which is an area we see as crucial to our growth.”

Drake said: “With over 30 million unique monthly visitors, Skyscanner has an enormous amount of data to help serve travellers more effectively.

“I am very excited to build on top of what is already a wonderful product, and to help further improve the way data is used for our products, our travellers, and our suppliers.”
