KLM and Airbnb have announced a long-term partnership following the success of an aircraft apartment competition.

To mark the new collaboration the Dutch airline and peer-to-peer hospitality marketplace ran a competition to win a stay in a KLM aircraft apartment at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

The long-term partnership will allow KLM website users to search for accommodation on Airbnb when they book a KLM flight. KLM has also created a travel guide which showcases Airbnb accommodation in over 600 destinations globally.

From early next year, these will also be available on the homepage of KLM’s website.

Martijn van der Zee, senior vice-president e-commerce of Air France-KLM, said: “Airbnb and KLM both connect people around the world and our product portfolios are complimentary. Since both companies share a passion in offering their customers an inspiring travel experience, it made perfect sense to join forces.”

Even Heggernes, country manager for Airbnb Nordics & Netherlands, said: “Airbnb guests and KLM travellers look for many of the same things when they travel; homey comfort, great experiences, and a personal touch.

“With KLM’s great flight connections to off-the-beaten-track destinations such as Bogota and Almatay, there’s plenty of opportunity to explore Airbnb listings in 190 countries, including apartments, houses, villas, tree houses, boats, and even igloos.”
