Irish technology firm Mobile Travel Technologies (MTT) is to develop Android and iPhone apps as well as a mobile web platform for Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia).

The Skyteam airline said it would migrate its mobile services to MTT to meet the demands of its increasingly mobile-centric customers.

Muhammad Albakri, who is both chief financial officer and chief information officer for Saudia, said: “New mobile apps are a strategic direction to improve services, expand customer reach and augment sales and service channels via mobile, both to meet customer expectations and business goals.”

MTT said the apps would provide an authentic user experience in Arabic, with enhanced right to left navigation, adding that design and local usability testing would be of paramount importance during development.

The company said the apps would be rolled out in multiple phases using an agile development approach to ensure quality and fast time to market.

It said the initial stage of the project would include the iPhone app release with flight search, flight status and check-in functionalities as well as booking and payment capability.

The app will also integrate with MTT’s Intelligent Push Engine, MTT Engage, allowing Saudia to assist passengers with real time travel updates.

Saudia operates more than 500 domestic and international flights daily to more than 90 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America.
