Finnair readies app release among series of launches

Finnair is to release a mobile app for Apple iOS devices this autumn.

Helsinki based Finnair said the app has been designed to act as a travelling companion, providing real-time flight information and storing electronic boarding passes.

Finnair vice-president for marketing and product development Jarkko Konttinen said the app could be used to check in, select seats, purchase upgrades, receive offers and check Finnair Plus point status.

The app release will be part of a series of product launches, as the carrier unveils upgrades of its business and economy-class cabins and improved facilities on the ground in Helsinki.

Finnair unveiled the cabin it plans to install on its first Airbus A350, due for delivery next year, this week.

The A350, a new fuel-efficient wide-body aircraft, is due to enter service with launch customer Qatar Airways later this year.

Konttinen said: “We have carried out detailed surveys of nearly 8,000 customers from our key markets in both Europe and Asia during the past year.

“With these product updates, we can support our core goal of growing Asian revenue and becoming a preferred airline between Asia and Europe.”

The airline said the app would be released on other mobile platforms.
