A new personal in-flight entertainment service by wireless streaming is being introduced by Monarch Airlines.
The MPlayer system allows passengers to connect to the onboard wireless network via their own iOS or Android smartphones or tablet devices and access free and pay-to-access in-flight entertainment content.
Passengers need to download a free app to access the system before their flight via the AppStore, GooglePlay or Amazon App Store.
The MPlayer media bundle costs £3.99 per person, per flight, giving access to five films, over 50 episodes of BBC Worldwide programmes and a music library of more than 50 albums.
Free services include digital versions of Monarch’s two in-flight magazines, destination restaurant reviews from TripAdvisor and bar reviews provided by BarChick.
MPlayer is available on six aircraft and will be expanded through the year and into 2015.
Customer experience and marketing director Tim Williamson said: “We recently launched our non-reclining seats with integrated tablet holder and the launch of MPlayer compliments the new seats making it easier to use your device on board.
“MPlayer has something for all ages, a perfect way to entertain the kids or catch up with top quality BBC comedies, dramas and documentaries. MPlayer’s content will be refreshed regularly to make sure our customers have access to the latest programming whilst on-board.”
