Destinia.com claims to have made first Google Glass hotel booking

Online travel agency Destinia.com claims to have become the first to take a hotel booking from a client using Google Glass technology.

Online travel agency Destinia.com claims to have become the first to take a hotel booking from a client using Google Glass technology.

Business traveller Rodney Loges, from Occoquan, Virginia, booked a room at the Holiday Inn in Woodbridge, Virginia, for $142 using an app developed by the company to search and reserve hotels.

The Hotel Near Me app, just released on the http://hotelnearme.com website claims to be the first in the world for booking hotels through Google Glass.

Users can find the closest hotels to their GPS position, see photos and hotel information, filter by price and then book the hotel. The app can show a map of how to get to the hotel and give directions right up to the front door.

The user can control the app either by swiping and tapping on the Google Glass or else by using voice commands such as “book hotel”.

Google Glass became available to the public in the US on May 15 for $1,500 while the Hotel Near Me app is free.

Loges said: “I needed to reserve a hotel nearby for some investors coming to visit me, and I was surprised how easy it was, literally in the blink of an eye.”

Destinia.com CEO Amuda Goueli said:  “We were thrilled to already get the first reservation. The wearable technology market is set to grow exponentially over the next few years and we aim to lead the travel sector in developing technology for it.”

The company plans to add more functionality to the app, and is also developing an international version with multiple languages and currencies for the Android and iOS platforms on smartphones.
