The travel metasearch start-up that clams to take the agony out of searching for flights and hotels has raised $20 million in series C funding.

Hipmunk has announced the funding has come from Oak Investment Partners, a one-time backer of rival price comparison site Kayak.

The cash injection doubles the amount the firm has raised since it was set up by chief executive Adam Goldstein and chief technology officer Steve Huffman in 2010.

Goldstein told Tech Crunch that he had been looking for further investment from a firm that had experience in consumer travel.

He also said the accommodation sector had become a priority for Hipmunk as it is more lucrative and that this area has been “growing like a rocketship”.

The latest round of funding also involved Hipmunk’s original investors Institutional Venture Partners and Ignition Partners, plus its angel investors.
