Four major airlines are seeking to boost website revenue by selling rental cars to customers.

Technology firm Amadeus today announced that Air France, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways and Tam had bought and implemented car rental booking technology into their websites.

The Madrid-headquartered company said 14 airlines were now using Amadeus Cars, which provides access to real-time rates and availability from 33 providers in more than 37,000 locations worldwide.

Peter Altmann, head of Amadeus Cars, said the product addresses carriers’ need to “differentiate their offer and to generate new revenue in an environment of tight margins”.
