Barker had worked for the company for 15 years until 2001 when he left to join Setnet Global.

He returns to lead both the development and sales teams.

Part of his remit will be to improve the company’s V-Suite of products, which includes TARSC, the company back office and accounting system.

He will also focus on the development of new products, said the company.

Barker said: “My previous tenure at Vertical means I already possess in-depth knowledge and an understanding of our core products and their potential.

“It’s now my job to ensure we refine the technology and continue to develop and deliver new products to market.”

Vertical Group chief executive Peter Healey said: “With Rob overseeing the project functions, I am comfortable that the teams will work in harmony to implement our growth strategy.

“His technical background and customer knowledge are exceptional and complimentary to our structure, and I am delighted to have him on board.”
