Egypt turns to Facebook to engage and inform tourists
Egypt has turned to Facebook in an effort to promote tourism to the strife-torn country.
The Egyptian Tourist Authority has created an official UK Facebook page to provide updates, travel tips and information.
Facebook.com/LoveEgyptUK will also be used as a platform for the authority to provide travel and safety updates.
UK and Ireland director of the country’s tourist authority Omayma El Husseini said: “By investing in our online presence, we will be able to reach out to British travellers in a modern and open way.
“Transparency is very important to us, and we want to ensure that we use Facebook as a means of communicating with fans about travel safety, reminding travellers that, with the current exception of Cairo and Northern Sinai, Egypt is a safe holiday destination.”
LoveEgyptUK will also host polls and competitions to inspire engagement among the page’s community.
