Specialist winter sports retailer Skiset has partnered with geolocation technology specialist Ma P’tite Balise to create an app that will allow parents to track their children’s location.

The app, which works with a GPS beacon that can be hired from Skiset stores for £2.50 a day, was created to help parents keep track of their children while on the slopes.

It will be available in time for the February half-term holiday – a key period for UK ski holidays. The device includes an SOS button so children can press to call for help in an emergency.

Philippe Koiransky, managing director of Skiset, said: “We are very excited to have developed this mobile app in collaboration with these leaders in their field.

“We have responded to customer demand and this product will benefit so many of the families visiting ski resorts over February half-term and beyond. Parents can now feel secure about the whereabouts of their child at all times.”

Skiset said the majority of large resorts will have at least one Skiset shop where Ma P’tite Balise can be rented.

GPS tags will be available in resorts such as la Plagne, les Arcs, Chamonix, les Menuires and Tignes, among others, and parents will be able to order these in advance on the Skiset website from 2015.
