TTE Preview: Trade show survey finds social media is on top

Social media has ranked highly in a survey of travel technology professionals conducted by Travel Technology Europe.

Social media has ranked highly in a survey of travel technology professionals conducted by Travel Technology Europe.

The 2014 annual trade show will kick off at London’s Earl’s Court exhibition centre in under a month.

Its annual survey found 71% of respondents believe having a presence on sites such as Facebook and Twitter was ‘essential’ to their business.

Just one in ten respondents thought social media is a waste of time.

Four out of five respondents ranked social media as the tool they have had the most success with when attracting new clients, second only to the company website.

The survey findings also revealed that travel technology professionals plan to spend more money on social media than any other area, second only to mobile applications.

As part of the conference programme, organisers have planned a series of presentations and panel discussions in which industry experts will highlight how social media has helped businesses overcome challenges including:

  • Managing a social media crisis

  • Is loyalty dead in the social world?

  • Social Media… Good or Evil for Travel?

  • Increase sales with Social Media

  • Social media: marketing v selling

Sarina Patel, TTE event manager said: “Across the vast array of marketing tools designed to target audiences in every way, shape or form, it seems social media is now firmly on top.

“With social channels becoming the predominant driving force behind many business’ marketing strategies we’ve beefed-up our conference programme with a whole host of social media sessions to ensure attendees have the latest information to stay one step ahead.”

This year’s TTE will feature a selection of presentations, industry panel debates, practical case studies, buyer-only masterclasses and interactive events.

It expects to welcome over 4,000 attendees during the two day event on February 4 and 5 2014.
