The unpredictability of the UK weather means the lure of guaranteed sunshine and blue skies is often the number one priority for many people.

Mainland Spain, particularly Benidorm and the surrounding Costa Blanca region, along with the Canary Islands remain firm short haul favourites offering good value for money and something for all the family.

The Caribbean remains popular with the islands of Barbados, Tobago, Dominican Republic and Cuba featuring strongly for 2013.

Other long haul options featuring this year include Dubai and Thailand.

Edinburgh tops the list of new year destinations, closely followed by London with its now annual fireworks display drawing many visitors to the capital.

Las Vegas has become as popular as New York’s Times Square as the place to see in the New Year in the US.

Multicom managing director John Howell said: “While for many of us Christmas and new year is a time for family gatherings and lots of turkey, mince pies and board games, for many British holidaymakers it is also another opportunity to head off to warmer climates.

“Quite clearly there is a great deal of choice available to suit any budget or holiday choice, with many other destinations that may be less popular but offering a quieter more relaxing time for those who want to escape the crowds.”
