Amadeus launches VisitEurope app to help tourism organisations

A mobile app to help national tourism organisations in Europe attract more overseas visitors has been developed by Amadeus.

A mobile app to help national tourism organisations in Europe attract more overseas visitors has been developed by Amadeus.

The VisitEurope solution is part of a joint “Destination Europe 2020” strategy between the European Commission and the European Travel Commission.

The aim is to strengthen the image of Europe in long-haul markets through promotional activities and the implementation of new technologies in co-operation with major industry stakeholders.

VisitEurope will provide the ETC with a digital platform to market Europe as an attractive tourism destination.

The application will be available for free download on iPad in the US by the end of the year, with Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Canada to follow, along with the launch of a global web version.

The app incorporates Amadeus’s online search technology that is designed to make travel inspiration and planning processes more appealing to travellers using mobile devices.

The solution will also enable travellers to share their travel information through relevant social media channels.

ETC executive director Eduardo Santander said: “This represents a key milestone in our collaboration with the European Commission and European travel technology companies such as Amadeus to attract more international travellers to visit Europe.”

Amadeus new businesses senior vice president Francisco Pérez-Lozao Rüter said: “Digital technologies are revolutionising the way Destination Management Organisations market and promote their products and services.

“We are convinced that the innovative technology of this platform will help DMOs be more competitive and visible, leveraging new channels such as mobile.”
