SilverRail acquires train search and journey planner tool from Jeppesen

A train search and journey planning tool has been acquired by SilverRail Technologies, the global transaction platform specialising in passenger rail.

A train search and journey planning tool has been acquired by SilverRail Technologies, the global transaction platform specialising in passenger rail.

It has bought Jeppesen’s Journey Planning business and Integrated Public Transport Information System (IPTIS) solution in a “game-changing” deal.

IPTIS is being sold by Jeppesen as it exits journey planning to focus on its core business.

The solution is claimed to be the only independent search and journey planning system in the rail industry and powers over 75% of all UK rail searches.

SilverRail’s global transaction platform connects to nearly 12 rail carrier systems globally, and will allow IPTIS to deliver high performance, low cost search functionality to the passenger rail industry beyond the UK, and across all of Europe soon.

As a result the new SilverRail group expects to create an industry-first platform for travellers to plan and book complex rail trips in a single purchase.

The new SilverRail group will include over 60 staff with operations in the UK, the US and Australia.

SilverRail co-founder and chief executive Aaron Gowell said: “This strategic acquisition is game-changing for the industry, as well as an excellent business and cultural fit.

“As an IPTIS customer ourselves, we know the team well and believe combining our vision to create air-like search and booking quality for rail, across regions and around the globe, will be seamless.”IPTIS general manager Francis Lee added: “We’re extremely excited to be joining SilverRail because we will exploit their global rail content to extend our search and booking capabilities beyond our current markets.

“Joining an award-winning rail-specialist technology company as ‘core’ to their strategy makes this a very compelling time for our team and an innovative time for our industry.”
