Car hire app sees Skyscanner take further step to becoming ‘comprehensive’ travel site

Skyscanner has developed and launched a car hire app following the roll out of its desktop search tool.

The free app allows users to compare prices at airports around the globe. An equivalent for flight search has been downloaded 25 million times.

The Android and iOS app allows the user to search via various filters like class of vehicle, features and transmission type and direct bookers to the provider to complete the transaction.

The Scotland-based firm says the development of car hire search for desktop and mobile is the “first step in its move towards Skyscanner’s move towards a fully comprehensive travel search website.”

Mart Porter, Skyscanner spokeswoman, said: “For many travellers flights and car hire go hand in hand, so it was a natural progression for us to meet this demand by adding our own car hire search functionality to our site.

“With mobile now accounting for more than half of our overall traffic, we expect the new car hire search app to prove very popular.”
