Swiss regional carrier SkyWorks Airlines is using modern API technology to expand its distribution beyond traditional GDSs.

The use of direct connectivity will lead to the ability to sell non-air ancillaries.

The Bern-based airline, which serves 28 destinations with a fleet of seven aircraft, is using German software company HitchHiker’s Flight API as well as its B2B and B2C booking applications.

The carrier’s head of alliances, pricing and distribution Axel Reissmann said: “As a young and dynamic airline we are not only relying on classical Global Distribution Systems but also on XML-interfaces. HitchHiker is an ideal partner for SkyWork Airlines and makes it possible to expand the portfolio of sales channels.

“Our customers profit from this co-operation as the flight search via HitchHiker happens in real time. Within a short time it will also be possible to book ancillary services or make a seat reservation.”
