Travel technology specialist Multicom has forged a deal with German flight technology provider HitchHiker to share content and expertise across their respective core businesses.

The agreement will see the two companies co-operate in content aggregation, exploring synergies in payment processing and data caching.

The move, designed to save time and costs while avoiding the redundant developments associated with integration and maintenance of third party content, will provide almost immediate bottom line benefits customers of both companies, they claim.

MultiCommerce, which supports secure payment for international credit cards and virtual debit cards, will be made available as a fully integrated payment solution in HitchHiker Flight API, HitchHiker.Agent and HitchHiker.Consumer applications.

Multicom and HitchHiker customers will gain more than 90 direct airline connections including major low-cost carriers as well as specialist airlines.

The two businesses have developed a uniform data cache format for low-cost airline content, seen as a crucial requirement for quick search results.

Multicom managing director John Howell said: “This is an ideal fit for both ourselves and HitchHiker and we’re delighted to have been able to reach this agreement that will deliver real benefits for our customers.

“The arrangement will also provide Multicom with the platform to expand its reach into new markets for MultiCommerce while providing the HitchHiker Flight API and the HitchHiker Travel Market Place with a greater variety of bookable ground services and cruise content available from FindandBook.”

HitchHiker managing director Thomas Boffo added: “There are huge benefits to both of our businesses but crucially all of our respective customers as a result of this collaboration.

“We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship between HitchHiker and Multicom and the exciting prospects it presents us both.”
