An app that allows holidaymakers to capture and share their holiday highlights on video has been introduced by Thomson.

The Thomson ViewMaker app is available to download for free from the Apple app store for use on iPhones, iPads and iPods with camera functionality.

Holidaymakers can record a video, or use one already stored in their camera roll, add a hashtag and key details and upload it onto the Thomson Holiday Views website.

The content will also be available for all users of the app to search and watch to see Thomson hotels and destinations through the eyes of fellow holidaymakers.

The uploaded content can be shared on the user’s Facebook page.

The move follows the MyThomson app which attracted more than 100,000 downloads in its first 11 weeks.

To coincide with the launch of the Thomson ViewMaker app, the operator is offering the chance for one user to win a £2,000 holiday. Two runners-up will win iPad Minis.

Marketing and digital director Jeremy Ellis said: “New technology plays an increasingly important role in our efforts to modernise our business and user generated content such as this gives us invaluable first hand feedback from our customers on what is making their holiday great, which will feed into on-going product development, as well as improving Thomson’s SEO performance.

“We are very proud of the hotel portfolio we offer to customers, and are delighted that we can now give them the opportunity to share their holiday experiences with others in a totally new way.

“I believe video is the best way to bring our holidays to life, and these user-generated videos will be the perfect complement for our own video content to allow customers to experience a destination or hotel before they make their purchase decision.”
