The boss of a rapidly growing online travel agency has started a quest to find the industry’s best young entrepreneur to help him double his business.

The boss of a rapidly growing online travel agency has started a quest to find the industry’s best young entrepreneur to help him double his business.

Matt Somers, managing director of Surrey-based Qwerty Travel, said he had become frustrated by a lack of ambition and drive shown by potential recruits for sales and marketing roles.

Now he has laid down the gauntlet for the best young talent to either join Qwerty’s existing team or present a business case for him to invest in.

“I want someone with an entrepreneurial and energetic nature, not necessarily with tons of travel experience – the energy is the important part, as is the desire to really make something of themselves,” said Somers. “I’m looking for the next sales-led entrepreneur, someone who is willing to work hard for the potential rewards.”

Former Gemstone boss Somers said he was willing to personally mentor a new member of the team, with a competitive salary bolstered by the opportunity to earn significant sums in commission.

Alternatively, if someone already has an existing small business or has plans for a travel start-up, he will invest in the project and provide office space and business service support, before working alongside the winner in return for a share in the business.

Qwerty Travel has expanded from selling resort-based products to city breaks and ski, and has more than doubled turnover from £10 million to £23 million.

Somers said: “I need someone who will help us drive the next stage of the business and take us from £23 million to £40 million and beyond.”
