Northerners spend more on holidays, claims Lastminute.com

Consumers in the north of England are spending almost £200 more than their southern counterparts on their holiday this year.

Consumers in the north of England are spending almost £200 more than their southern counterparts on their holiday this year.

And holiday spending in the north of the country is up £118 per person, with almost a third (29%) of northerners planning to spend more than £1,000 per person this summer.

Research by lastminute.com found that 30% of Scottish holiday makers plan to splash out at least a £1,000 per person but only one in five of those living in the south are prepared to do the same.

Men were found to be the biggest holiday spenders, allocating £918 each on average, compared to women who are set to spend an average of £831 this year.

Lastminute.com UK and Ireland managing director Mark Maddock said: “Our findings have highlighted a north-south divide we’re not used to seeing, and it may be that the cost of housing is beginning to impact southerners’ purchasing power.

“However, people deserve to get maximum value from their hard-earned holiday budgets and at lastminute.com we can guarantee fantastic getaways for affordable prices.”
