Tui Travel is rolling out its MyThomson holiday planning app to its entire customer base following trials, targeting 50,000 downloads by October.

The firm saw 15,000 holidaymakers download the app during a trial period and it secured a four star rating on Apple’s App Store and a place in the top 20 travel apps.

The app is described as a ‘one stop shop’ catering for all Tui’s customers needs including information on flights, luggage allowance, maps and details of their trip and destination.

The app also seeks to build excitement ahead of the holiday with a countdown timer which is integrated with Facebook and Twitter.

Tui customers are also encouraged to use the app while on holiday to book excursions and access destination guides.

Johan Lundgren, deputy chief executive of Tui Travel, said: “Innovation is at the heart of Tui Travel’s strategy to deliver future growth and we recognise mobile technology and social media are changing the way in which consumers research, book and share their holiday experiences.

“New technology plays an increasingly important role and we are using it to revolutionise the travel industry.

“Not only for the traveller, but also to ensure we can continue to enhance our understanding of what holidaymakers need and want, so we can create the best possible holiday experiences.

“The launch of the MyThomson app is an exciting new way of connecting our customers anytime, anywhere, in any way with Thomson.

“The annual summer holiday is a significant purchase for our customers and we know that they not only spend time choosing and planning their holiday but also looking forward to it.

“The app is a fantastic way to get customers more excited about their holiday and will help them keep up to date with all the information they need in one place, just a tap away.”
