Chris Roe, head of tours at Opodo, is leaving the online travel agent after just 18 months for a new position at Virgin Holidays.

Travolution understands Roe, who joined online travel agent Opodo from Sky Travel in June 2005, left the company at short notice last week.

The departure of Roe, who has held senior positions at Expedia and Thomson, comes just two months after the shock exit of chief executive Simon Vincent to become vice president of Hilton UK & Ireland.

Vincent was replaced within a month by the surprise appointment of Ignacio Martos, boss of online travel portal Rumbo.

The senior level merry-go-round at Opodo has fuelled masses of speculation in the past over the long term future of the business, although fears were allayed in 2004 when technology specialist Amadeus took a controlling stake.

Since its launch in 2000, Opodo has had a string of chief executives running the business including launch boss Giovanni Bisignani, Simon Tucker, David Scowsill, Bart Tompkins, Vincent and Martos.

An Opodo spokeswoman confirmed Roe had left the company, adding: “We are sorry to see him go, but we wish him all the best for the future.”
