Flight metasearch site Momondo has rolled out a new Flight Insight aimed at enabling customers to shop by playing airlines at their own yield management game.
The tool, which sits above the flight search results and is currently available on 400 routes, take variables like time of departure, day of the week, seasonality and airport.
It also offers users intelligence into how changing the lead-in time of the bookings impacts price and which airline to choose.
Momondo plans to roll this feature out to more routes in due course.
Results are shown in a pie chart of trends and an overview of most expensive and cheapest examples for each factor for that particular route. A graph displays the percentage impact on flight price.
Flight Insight interrogates data from millions of real prices found by users in previous searches on momondo.
Tore Pein Jensen, Momondo chief marketing officer said: “Flight Insight is all about transparency – making it easier for travelers to see how different factors influence the price.
“For instance, knowing which days of the week, or times of the day are best to fly can be valuable information if you’re flexible and want to save money on your flight.”
