Matthew Batchelor (pictured) has been named as group chief technical officer for online search company Momondo to support further growth as part of a raft of management appointments.

He joins from restaurant booking operation Livebookings following Momondo opening five dedicate sites as its network expands into China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Ukraine and its Cheaflights operation opening a New Zealand site.

Batchelor’s appointment forms part of the company’s development of its group operations function and follows the arrival last year of Ben Rosier as head of global PR.

Tore Pein Jensen has also joined from marketing agency Co+Høgh as chief marketing officer, responsible for Momondo’s expansion strategy, brand and marketinh, and spearheading activity for the network of 21 local Momondo sites from its headquarters in Copenhagen.

The group’s Cheapflights business is also strengthening its management line up by recruiting Rene Freling from Travelzoo as director of newsletters.

Rick Medlock, a non-executive director since 2008, becomes non-executive chairman of Momondo Group, while Pia Vemmelund, who became chief executive of Momondo AS last year, joins the board alongside Martin Lumbye.

Group chief executive Hugo Burge said: “2013 is shaping up to be an exciting watershed year for Momondo Group and our network of Cheapflights and Momondo sites.

“We have moved on from a lot of the nuts and bolts of acquiring Momondo and are now focused on growth – with a host of new country launches, some fantastic product innovation in the pipeline, significant new business partners and ultimately more happy travel searchers than ever before.”

“Over the last year we have worked hard to ensure close working between our Cheapflights and Momondo operations, but also ensuring that we retain their unique and complementary focus which makes the two brands more than the sum of their parts. These first class appointments complete our senior team and are designed to help us scale our businesses rapidly.”
