Travelport confirms deals with two Chinese airlines

Two of China’s airlines have committed to distributing to agents worldwide using Travelport’s Galileo, Apollo and Worldspan GDSs.

China Eastern Airlines and subsidiary Shanghai Airlines are also upgrading their GDS connectivity to the highest level to deliver the most accurate inventory information to agents with the ability to view and sell last-seat availability in real time.

Both airlines intend to implement other Travelport functionalities such as Online Check-in, allowing travelers to check-in via flexible itinerary tool Travelport ViewTrip.

China Eastern Airlines carries almost 70 million passengers a year, serving 197 destinations while Shanghai Airlines covers 170 domestic and international points in Asia.

Confirming the new multi-year global content agreement, China Eastern senior manager, system development branch, network and revenue management department Pu Jian said: “We are delighted to partner with Travelport to continue expanding our global distribution chain for China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines, as well as enhancing accessibility of our flights to both agents and consumers worldwide.”

Travelport Asia Pacific distribution sales and services vice president Damian Hickey said: “China Eastern is one of the leading carrier groups in China, and this agreement provides significant content for our travel agency customers.”
