Up to 40 new jobs are being created by Traveltek to fuel its rapidly expanding global reach.

Up to 40 new jobs are being created by Traveltek to fuel its rapidly expanding global reach.

Former sales and marketing director Peter Whittle is promoted to the new role of global sales director while Asia Pacific director Tim Poulter is to leave the business “with immediate effect”.

The new posts will be made up from strengthening Whittle’s sales and account management team, with an increased number of project management staff joining the company.

Additions to Traveltek’s content team and “language academy” are planned ahead of an impending launch into Russia and China early next year.

Traveltek’s internal support division will move to ‘24/7/365’ working in April, boosted by a recruitment drive in both support and customer services.

Chief executive Kenny Picken said: “We have been working hard for the last five years to establish a global platform which many saw as a pipe dream.

“But we have pulled it off and 2012 was a record year for us despite a huge investment in our new custom-built UK offices and the opening of our North Sydney offices in Australia, where our growth has been simply fantastic.

“Since we entered the Australian market just three years ago, we have secured business from the top cruise retailers and our wholesale cruise distribution product has been hugely successful establishing Traveltek as the clear market leader in our field.

“We would expect to add a US office in New York in Q4 2013 as our presence within North America grows.”

He added: “We have seen our cruise and general travel technology business grow rapidly in Australia/New Zealand, USA, South America, South Africa and Europe and we are expecting even greater growth in 2013 and bigger again in 2014 as we establish our presence in both Russia and China.

“We simply cannot achieve this without the right people and have been on a recruitment drive to increase our resources across almost all departments within the business but none more important than our creation of a 24/7/365 support operation which will be HQ-based and operate around the clock.

“Supporting our clients well is key to everything and our endeavours here will be unrelenting.

“I believe the commitment of up to 40 new positions underpins that and clearly demonstrates our intentions to drive our business forward despite the general trading negativity we are all used to reading about.

“Every recession is a re-alignment of previous mistakes but it also creates a new era of opportunities and the travel industry has these opportunities to adapt and grow and I believe Traveltek is part of that evolutionary process.”
