Orbitz Worldwide-owned Ebookers claims to have become the first European online travel agent to offer train tickets across the entire UK rail network.
The company’s UK rail booking process has been modeled off its regular booking system for flights, hotels and car hire, allowing users easier train bookings.
Previously consumers would have to book UK rail separate from other holiday components.
The service covers 21 rail operating companies, with access to more than 2,500 stations and 20,000 services a day.
Rail search and booking is being powered by SilverCore, a global rail platform developed by SilverRail Technologies.
The service is to be incorporated into Ebookers’ mobile offerings and the company’s sites in continental Europe.
President Tamer Tamar said: “This is a major landmark in online travel, and we are extremely proud to be the first European OTA to offer UK Rail to our customers.
“We have invested considerable resources in ensuring that the Ebookers user experience for rail matches the high standard set by our other products, so our customers can book easier and travel happier.
“Further down the line, we plan to roll out rail into additional countries we serve, with the option to package with other travel products, such as hotels.”
