Lastminute.com co-founder Martha Lane Fox, appointed UK digital champion in 2010, is to become the youngest woman in the House of Lords.

The 40-year-old online entrepreneur co-founded the website in 1998 with Brent Hoberman and also launched the karaoke bar chain Lucky Voice.

As Baroness Lane-Fox of Soho she becomes a non-political cross bench peer in the wake of her remit to encourage more internet use in the UK.

Lords rules mean she must add a hyphen to her surname when she is officially introduced on March 26.

She is on the board of Channel 4, Marks & Spencer and mydeco.com.
