Europe’s largest budget carrier Ryanair has claimed its hotels website saw record traffic in the January peak booking period.

The Irish airline said RyanairHotels.com had more than 5.5 million visitors in January, a threefold increase on the previous month.

The site was launched in April 2012 and offers over 450,000 hotels worldwide at discount prices.

It is powered by HotelsCombined which took over from booking.com last year as the latest accommodation partner for Ryanair.

Ryanair director of ancillary revenue, Garry Walsh, said: “As Europe’s biggest airline, Ryanair is used to breaking records and now our RyanairHotels.com site is attracting record traffic of its own.”

The airline claimed RyanairHotels.com is the biggest online accommodation website in Europe, offering guaranteed lowest hotel prices and a free booking and cancellation service.

It added it also includes 17 million verified guest reviews and caters for all budgets from small independent hotels to five-star luxury.
