Internet service provider AOL is to launch a Destinations Guide on its travel channel with content supplied by guidebook specialist Lonely Planet.

The section, which goes live on the 19 December, will feature 250 guides to 250 destinations across five continents and is the first part of investment into the ISP’s travel channel into 2006.

The guides will include interactive maps containing drop-down navigation, in-depth information on each destination and over 1,000 images.

Lonely Planet will provide practical information on transport, visa requirements, travel warnings, history about a destination and climate information.

AOL head of travel and lifestyle, Clare Messenger, said: “Destination Guides are just one of the new developments on AOL’s dedicated Travel channel and is the start of an ongoing investment programme that will be rolling out in 2007.

“The new guides will provide the AOL customer with an extensive view of the world and will be of significant help to anyone planning a trip away.”
