Marriott and Secret Escapes have knocked TripAdvisor and Superbreak off the rankings of the ten most visible sites for hotel searches, according to new statistics.

The quarterly statistics from digital marketing agency Greenlight show that there were 1.4 million Google searches for hotels in August, down from 1.5 million in May. ‘Hotels’ was the most searched keyword, followed by ‘cheap hotels’ and ‘hotels in London’. The statistics looked at both paid and natural search.

Secretescapes.com didn’t make Greenlight’s chart of the top 30 websites in May, but came in at number ten for the August statistics. Greenlight said this was through paid search. Marriott moved from 17th place to ninth place.

Laterooms.com was the most visible site, with a big increase in its paid search visibility – from 24% in May to 69% in August, and the statistics showed a similar picture for Lastminute.com.

TripAdvisor was just outside the top ten at number 11.
