Former Comtec and Vertical Systems chief executive Mike Russell has been appointed as chief operating officer at London-based travel technology specialist Open Destinations.

Russell left Comtec in March after just over a year having led a refinancing and management buyout of the Cardiff-based company from private equity investors that saw founder Simon Powell return.

Prior to that Russell was chief executive at Vertical Systems for three years and managing director of Holiday Experts for six years to Marc 2011.

Open Destinations has not officially confirmed the appointment saying it expects to make an announcement shortly, but Russell’s LinkendIn profile was updated to include the role and he confirmed to Travolution has he started as COO this week.
