Almost three quarters (72%) of Britons favour a beach holiday, according to research by Ebookers, which has recruited a couple to review the world’s top 10.

The poll of 2,000 adults also revealed that couples’ arguments start before even setting off on holiday, with 52% not being able to agree on the destination.

Darren Riley and Nicola Rawson from Southampton will be blogging and tweeting about their experiences, providing photography, reviews and video footage.

The couple were selected after successfully completing a four stage interview process which included a written application, telephone interview, Facebook fan votes and a face-to-face interview testing their written and presentation skills.

They set off on Friday to travel around Europe, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, staying at destinations ranging from Brighton and Malta to Majorca and Dubai.

Ebookers’ travel experts have selected 10 of the top searched beach destinations and hotels that offer a ‘romance factor’ to be reviewed by the beach reporters.

The duo will be working from a list of criteria compiled by Ebookers while providing their personal experiences along the way.

The online travel agency’s marketing manager Jessica Craker said: “Our research revealed that beach destinations are the most popular romantic getaway for British couples.

“Ebookers offers a variety of beautiful beach destinations, but we know, as the research indicates, choosing the right one can be a difficult task.

“We’ve recruited Darren and Nicola to review 10 of our beach destinations to help our customers select their ultimate romantic beach escape.

“We’re looking forward to reading their reviews along the way as they uncover the romantic quirks and qualities of beach destinations in Europe, UAE and Egypt.”

Rawson said: “We know that it’s going to be a challenging few weeks as we’re visiting a number of destinations in a relatively short period of time, but we’re really looking forward to it.”
