Cunard denies revealing passport details in customer data breach

Cunard has admitted to a breach of passenger confidentiality by accidentally sending out booking details to other travellers.

The line stressed that credit card information was not disclosed in the e-mail sent last Friday.

Cunard’s online booking system had to be shut down after personal information of more than 1,200 passengers to an undisclosed number of people registered on the system.

The line said in a statement: “Cunard can confirm that on Friday, June 22 an e-mail was sent in error to some guests containing details relating to other guests’ bookings.

“No passport details were contained in the e-mail.  We contacted all affected guests and re-issued new booking references.”

Cunard went on to say:  “We apologise for this error and would like to reassure guests that the issue was dealt with swiftly.

“Our first priority is the protection and safeguarding of our guests’ information, and we are taking steps to ensure that this could not happen again.”
