Deals provider Travelzoo is to make its first foray into services outside of travel with the launch of a new feature called Travelzoo Extra.

The US-based company will use a similar subscriber email to its existing weekly Top 20 travel deals for goods such as clothes, electronics, DVDs and books.

Launching initially in the US, Travelzoo said the programme will follow the strict editorial rules it currently applies to the creation of its travel deals bulletin.

Chairman and chief executive Ralph Bartel said: “Travelzoo Extra marks our entry into the business of publishing non-travel deals, in addition to our core business of publishing travel deals.

“In the past, users have asked us why Travelzoo doesn’t list sales other than travel. Now we are responding to this request.

“While this type of content provides additional useful information to our subscribers, it also is an incremental business opportunity for us.”

The Travelzoo pointed to goods such as training shoes, sunglasses, book vouchers and electronic accessories such as memory sticks as those that might be included in future bulletins.
