Travelport and UK social media specialist Digital Visitor have struck a formal partnership agreement, thought to be a first for a GDS.

Under the terms of the deal , Travelport’s UK travel agency and tour operator customers will be referred to Digital Visitor for their social media content management and broadcast requirements.

These will be offered at preferential rates, both sides hoping it will help fuel organic traffic to client websites through social channels.

Anthony Rawlins, founder and chief executive of Digital Visitor said: “We are delighted to be working with Travelport.

“Harnessing social media is key to powering the growth of travel agents’ online businesses and our unrivalled product set and experience will significantly drive growth in both traffic and conversion rates”

Rawlins said he believed this deal was a first for a GDS and would see Digital Visitor make its social media products available through Travelport as well as running campaigns for the GDSs customers.

“This is about maximising value to Trevelport’s customers. We have developed good relationships and proven we have some cracking solutions which drive revenue and bring real value.

“With those business objectives and principals in mind we are natural partners for Travelport. This is a whole new area for them to reach their clients and ehance their business using a partner.”

Simon Ferguson, regional director for UK and Ireland at Travelport, added: “This is a ground-breaking relationship for a GDS and is further proof of Travelport’s desire to grow our role as a broad-based services provider- in this instance by supporting the digital marketing requirements of our customers.”

It is hoped if the tie-up proves a success that it could eventually be extended to Travelport customers outside of the UK.
