A record number of users have been announced by Cheapflights Media in the first quarter of the year.

New traffic highs were reached across both its Cheapflights branded websites and Momondo.

Overall global traffic was up by 11% on the same three months of last year. The monthly visit average for the period was 13.2 million visits.

Cheapflights.co.uk was also elected a top ten winner for 2011 in Experian Hitwise’s ‘travel agencies’ sector for the tenth year running.

Cheapflights’ chief executive Hugo Burge said: “We are pleased to be on the front foot and defying the gloom.

“More people came to Cheapflights seeking great flight and travel deals than ever before in our history.

“Also last month we hit a record six million opt-in international subscribers to our newsletters – and in the UK, our original market, we had a record level of traffic with 5% more people searching for cheap flights than in 2011.”

He added: “Travel is a welcome respite from the gloom and whilst many consumers are trading down to short haul travel, we are still seeing a buoyant market for our flight price search sites.

“The whole team is very proud to have achieved ten years unbroken inclusion in Hitwise’s ‘travel agencies’ top ten winners list and it is a great accolade for our team who are passionate about travel.

“There are regularly about 2,900 web-sites assessed each month by Hitwise and to be consistently rated in the top ten each year is something we don’t take lightly.

“Our goal is to offer the widest range of flight deals to consumers combined with expert travel advice – and that strategy is paying off.”
