Expedia.co.uk has unveiled a Facebook app that enables customers to ‘check in’ on their profiles to allow others to virtually explore destinations around the globe.

The CheckIn app has been launched alongside an Easter Egg hunt game to promote the service. One egg will be hidden every day in tourist spots around the world; when found, users can ‘check it in’ with the app to win Expedia vouchers.

The Easter Egg hunt will run from Apil 4 to April 13, with a new egg hidden in a different city each day.

The app, billed by Expedia as an example of their commitment to social innovation, presents users with a map of various destinations as well as several attractions in each city, such as the Statue of Liberty in New York and 10 Downing Street in London.

Andy Washington, managing director for the UK and Ireland, said: “At Expedia.co.uk we are always looking for new places to discover or new ways to experience familiar destinations. Through the CheckIn app and the Easter Egg hunt, we hope to help people to discover more about popular destinations around the world and share our passion for sampling new places and new experiences.

“We know that more and more people are turning to social media as a source of travel inspiration and so we wanted to design a new and engaging way to inspire people, which fitted naturally with the Facebook platform.”
