More than 750,000 downloads of easyJet’s mobile application have been achieved since its launch in December.

A new social sharing feature has been added to the app which was developed in partnership with Dublin-based mobile travel specialist Mobile Travel Technologies.

The social sharing features enable users to post their bookings straight onto social networking sites as well as email flight information to others on the booking direct from the app.

It also sends a reminder to passengers to check in shortly before their flight.

The airline’s marketing director Peter Duffy said: “We know that when customers book their flights they are often keen to share the news with their travelling companions and friends online so we are sure the new social sharing features will be popular. We continue to work on future innovations so watch this space.”

The majority of mobile bookings are made less than 20 days in advance, with a significant number of bookings being made for next day travel, but some passengers are booking 10 or more months in advance.

Mobile Travel Technologies founder and executive director Gerry Samuels said: “The easyJet mobile apps prove that if you invest in robust apps and an exceptional user experience you can generate significant revenue through mobile commerce.”
