Teletext Holidays is to take another step to widening its portfolio with the £3 million purchase this week home rental website Villarenters.com.

The move is the second significant move in the holiday rentals market in the past 12 months following US-based HomeAway’s purchase of Holiday-Rentals.co.uk last year.

Villarenters.com operates an Ebay-style rating system for owners to be judged on the quality of their properties.

The site has grown massively in the past year and is expected to attract revenues of almost £1 million by the end of 2005 as a record 300 new owners a month sign up to its advertising package on the site.

Villarenters.com has created a white label website and booking engine for home owners to incorporate into their businesses.

Teletext Holidays managing director Ray Mason said: “By providing simple online booking and payment tools directly to private villa owners, Villarenters.com offers a wide selection of rental properties which would not otherwise be available to consumers.

“With over 300 new owners signing up to the site every month and commissions at half those demanded by most agencies, bookings are doubling year on year in what is traditionally, a tough marketplace.“
