Travel technology provider Comtec is attempting to make serious inroads into the US online travel market following a partnership deal with agent network Vacation.com.

The deal will see South Wales-based Comtec provide back office and operating systems for Vacation.com.

Comtec will also work on developing a wider online presence for the company, which counts 7,500 member agencies in the US and Canada.

Vacation.com chief executive and president Stave Tracas said: “Together Comtec and Vacation.com plan to map out leisure technology solutions that can best serve our members over the long-term to drive preferred supplier sales and member profitability.

“We are intrigued by the opportunities presented by Comtec’s proven technology and want to thoroughly evaluate the possibilities that Comtec can provide to our member agencies.”

Comtec said the US deal would spearhead a concerted effort by the company to internationalise the business.

Comtec chief executive Simon Powell said: “We believe that Comtec is in a superb position to work with Vacation.com to provide first-mover advantage in applying our technology to the needs of the US travel marketplace.”

“We see this as a natural extension of the systems that we have developed for many of the leading leisure travel agents in the U.K. market.”
